Poch, as part of the SWECO-POCH-EPS international alliance, develops the Study of Environmental Impact for the HidroAysén power generation project.
Description of the Project:
The Aysén Hydroelectric Project (HidroAysén), is the most important power generation project in course in Chile. The group of its 4 reservoir-type power stations (Baker I and II, Pascua I and II), will contribute 2750 MW in full capacity to the CIS. This equals 17% of the CIS generation capacity in 2008, and would cover approximately 40% of the system expansion needs until 2015. In addition, the stability and complementary character of the hydrologic regimes of the Baker and Pascua rivers in relation to most of the Chilean power matrix, would significantly allow lowering the seasonal and inter-annual variation of the CIS generation.
Our Importance:
The environmental consultancy of a project of this caliber and importance, requires the participation of a professional multidisciplinary and highly scientific team. Poch, together with the Swedish-Norwegian SWECO consultant and the Chilean consultant EPS has taken the challenge since December 2006 of carrying out the required studies regarding the entrance of the project to the Environmental Impact Evaluation System.
Poch has contributed with more than 70 professionals for the development of the technical studies and participated in more than 25 field expeditions conformed by a hundred of scientists, doctors and experts. The consultancy was based on an environmental characterization that covered studies in nearly 300,000 hectares, an area several times bigger than the surface of the projects sites and reservoirs..
Essential benefit:
The work done by Poch and its partners in this important project focuses on the rational and sustainable good use of the Baker and Pascua rivers potential, minimizing the effects in the area of influence and contributing to the region and its people’s development.
