Poch develops the automation of the backup generation station for the pumping system of Los Quillayes Tailings Dam.
Description of the Project:
Company Minera Los Pelambres is dedicated to copper and molybdenum open pit extraction, in the mountain area of the Salamanca municipality, region of Coquimbo. By 2008 it has produced over 300,000 metric tons of fine copper per year, making it one of the five most important deposits in Chile.
Our importance:
Contributing to the sustainable development of Los Pelambres Mine operations, Poch, between 2007 and 2008 was dedicated to the implementation of the control and supervision system of the Drenes Diesel Power Plant, located in the area with the same name. This 6 MW generation park serves as a backup of critical pumps when filtrating and recovering waters from the Los Quillayes Tailings Dam, and to the reduction of energy costs of the Minera, incorporating self-generation in peak periods (peak-shaving).
Essential benefit:
A system of supervision and control was developed, with local and remote interfaces, allowing a simple and safe operation of the park in Base Load and Island modes. The system, on top of administrating the synchronism functions and loading of generators, it enables the operators in the electrical room, located around 12 kilometers away, to supervise and command its operation, along with reviewing and taking advantage of the information that the system provides through graph reports.
