Poch collaborates in the development of the most important hydraulic station in the Metropolitan Region.
Description of the Project:
The AES corp Company is one of the world leaders in energy generation, with presence in more than 26 countries and with sales exceeding 8.4 billion dollars per year.
AES Gener filial of AES corp in Chile, today presents an installed energy capacity of approximately 680 MW in this country, supplying nearly 7.0% of the Central Inter-Connected System (CIS) demand.
The projections indicate that the power consumption in Chile will double from the present consumption in less than 10 years. In order to satisfy part of such demand AES Gener has decided to develop the “Alto Maipo” project.
The Alto Maipo project includes two run-of-rivers power stations installed in series. One of them, Alfalfal II Station, presents a gross fall of 1166m, with an installed power of 264 MW, and with over 25 km of tunnels excavated in rocks.
Our importance:
The feasibility study and the basic engineering development have been ordered to Alto Maipo consortium, to which Poch is part of, along with other nationally and internationally recognized companies.
The work developed by Poch mainly includes the following tasks: planning study, underground sites hydraulic design, transitional phenomenon hydraulic study, energy generation model, electrical systems dimensioning, substations and transmission lines layout and geological studies. In the machine house, auxiliary services, structural, ventilation, sewage and potable water systems designs.
Essential benefit:
This project will permit satisfying part of the demand through energy projected to the future in Chile, producing at less marginal cost and in a clean manner compared with other sources. This will move away the operation of new thermal power stations. Finally, due to its nature it will be implemented under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) defined in Article 12 of the Kyoto Protocol.
