Improvement of the Ammonium Nitrate dilution System and Production Increase.
Description of the Project:
Cerrejón is the biggest open-pit export coal mining operation in the world, located in the La Guijara peninsula and department, northeast of Colombia. Cerrejon Coal Co. belongs in three equal parts to BHP Billiton plc, Anglo American plc and Xstrata plc subsidiary companies.
Our importance:
The Cerrejón Project developed by Poch, as a subcontract of Orica Colombia, consisted of the developing the Engineering to improve and increase of the Ammonium Nitrate Emulsion Plant production of the Carbones del Cerrejón mine in Colombia. Additionally, Poch carried out the investment estimation according to the client’s request.
Essential benefit:
The project developed by Poch will permit to increase the emulsion production from 280 tons daily to a range of 370 to 425 tons daily, satisfying the increasing demand of emulsion by the mining industry with a projection up to the year 2014. The project also considered a back-up system that will secure the continuous production of emulsion in case of failure of the raw material feeding system.
